APA Handbook of Health Psychology, Volume 1 Foundations and Context of Health Psychology

Volume 1 presents the scope of and foundational issues in the field of health psychology, which seeks to promote health, prevent illness, and improve health care for individuals and society through the application of research, practice, education, training, and advocacy. The volume also discusses emerging issues and key challenges for the future of health psychology in the context of the social and cultural environments in which it exists and the allied fields which help inform it. The volume addresses the issues and advances in biomedical research, public health, and health care that help shape the research and practice agendas for health psychologists, and the ways in which the work of health psychologists, in turn, informs biomedical research and its applications in the promotion of health and the prevention and management of physical diseases and disorders. The volume discusses cross-cutting issues such as health policy, health disparities, lifespan perspectives, and health psychology training; methods in health psychology; and the biological, psychological, behavioral, social, and cultural bases of health psychology.
